National Biosecurity Week (NBW) 2026 was held from 24–30 August, bringing together governments, industry organisations, businesses, educators, community groups and individuals to raise awareness of the role biosecurity plays in protecting Australia’s food supply, environment, economy and way of life.

Led by Plant Health Australia (PHA) with support from Animal Health Australia (AHA), this year’s campaign centred on the theme ‘Planning ahead helps protect what matters’, highlighting the importance of prevention, preparedness and early action across Australia’s biosecurity system.

The campaign again demonstrated the strength of Australia’s biosecurity partnerships, with organisations across the country sharing resources, promoting key messages, hosting events and encouraging practical biosecurity action.

PHA and AHA Members helped extend the campaign’s reach through websites, newsletters, social media channels, events, webinars, training activities and community engagement initiatives.

These activities helped reach a broad audience, including growers, livestock producers, travellers, educators, students, community groups and the general public, reinforcing the message that biosecurity is a shared responsibility.

NBW is a key initiative under the National Biosecurity Strategy and continues to build awareness of the role everyone can play in reducing biosecurity risk.

PHA thanks all Members, stakeholders, partners and supporters who helped bring this year’s campaign to life through their enthusiasm, collaboration and commitment to promoting biosecurity awareness.

While the campaign runs for one week each year, its message extends throughout the year. Planning ahead, maintaining good biosecurity practices and reporting unusual pests, diseases and weeds all help strengthen Australia’s biosecurity system and protect what matters most.
