We are deeply saddened by the recent passing of Dr Matthias Jost, Project Officer, Digital Systems. Known for his kindness and humour, he was a cherished colleague and an integral part of the team.

As part of Plant Health Australia’s (PHA) digital systems team, Matthias was a thoughtful, kind and considerate team member. He enjoyed collaborating on projects and took it upon himself to learn and understand things in detail and was eager to pass on that knowledge. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, both at work, and by offering lifts to his colleagues in his beloved Toyota Prado.

Matthias had a keen sense of adventure and we will miss him regaling tales of exploring the bush around his adopted home of Canberra.

We feel a profound sense of loss, especially knowing that we can no longer engage in daily conversations, and no longer share in Matthias’ unique ability to lighten the atmosphere with his humour and jokes.

Beyond everything, Matthias was a proud and devoted father and husband, and keen to let us know of baby Michael’s progress and how he and his wife Xiaoxiao were doing starting as a young family.

Rest in peace, Matthias. You will always hold a special place at PHA.
