Salome Wilson

Acting Networks Coordinator

Salome joins PHA after recently completing a PhD at the Australian National University. There she combined her interests in plant pathology and cereals research, developing molecular techniques for investigating the genomic basis of virulence in wheat stripe rust fungi. In 2023, she was the recipient of a DAFF Science and Innovation Award for Young People in Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries for her project entitled: ‘Rapid validation of novel genes involved in plant disease’. During her PhD, Salome co-founded the PBRI Plant Health Student Network, which aims to connect students and early career researchers in the plant health field and was involved in organising Plant Biosecurity outreach and science communication events for high school students.

Salome will be working in the Biosecurity Preparedness team and is looking forward to engaging with industry and government stakeholders to enhance biosecurity preparedness.
