Our professional and skilled team work to achieve outcomes for Members through implementation of the Strategic Plan, and associated Annual Operational Plan. PHA’s national office is located in Deakin, Canberra with staff based in Queensland, Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria and New South Wales.
Dr Stephen Quarrell
Dr Stephen Quarrell joined PHA in May 2024 as the Biosecurity Planning Manager.
Stephen brings a wealth of experience from his tenure at the University of Tasmania’s Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture (TIA), where he was as a Lecturer in Entomology.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Science (Hons) and received his PhD in 2013, focusing on pest management in perennial tree crops and the invasion biology of European earwigs in Australia. Prior to academia, Stephen gained extensive industry experience working in various roles across several plant industries including viticulture, apple, cherry, stone fruit, and vegetables.
His research interests have largely focused on IPM, biological control, insect chemical ecology, crop pollination, honey bee health and the use of technology to solve issues within the agricultural sector. He has led several industry focused research and extension projects including a $1.8 million Hort Innovation funded project on ‘Integrated Management Approaches to Address Pest Challenges in Raspberries and Blackberries.’
