PHA has recently, with support from the Grains Research and Development Corporation (GRDC), reviewed and updated the Biosecurity Plan for the Grain Industry.

With valuable input from industry and biosecurity and crop protection experts from state and Commonwealth departments of agriculture, the Biosecurity Plan for the Grains Industry Version 4.0 (the Plan) has now been formally endorsed by the Australian grains industry and all governments.

Following the plan’s endorsement, our attention now turns to implementation with support of the inaugural Grains Biosecurity Advisory Committee (GBAC) comprising of representatives from the GRDC, Grain Producers Australia, Grain Growers Ltd, Grain Trade Australia and PHA.

We envisage the role of the Committee will be to:

  • provide advice on the implementation of strategies, projects and activities identified in the plan
  • identify and prioritise any future opportunities that will strengthen the industry’s biosecurity preparedness outcomes
  • advise on opportunities to share knowledge and information
  • to assist in the ongoing coordination of activities implemented under the plan
  • support collaboration between key stakeholders
  • provide advice on an appropriate monitoring, and reporting arrangements for activities implemented under the plan.

The Committee will be facilitated and coordinated by PHA.
