Our employees are paramount to our operations. They bring the expertise and knowledge we need to generate solutions that improve biosecurity outcomes and strengthen Australia’s biosecurity system.

PHA is committed to fostering a professional, respectful and safe workplace that enables us to retain valued talent and remain an attractive employer. This is not only a core organisational value, but it is a legal obligation under Australian workplace legislation.

Under WHS legislation, all employers have a duty of care to actively manage psychosocial hazards in the workplace and can be held legally responsible if their employees are exposed to psychosocial hazards including those introduced by third parties, such as project partners, clients, contractors and members of the public.

To sustain a psychologically safe workplace, PHA’s Code of Conduct and Values in Action guide our interactions within our organisation and how we interact with our external partners. We expect all interactions both within our organisation and with external partners to align with these principles, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

We expect that the professionalism and respect with which our staff conduct themselves in interactions with our Members and associated stakeholders is reciprocated by Members, other stakeholders and their staff.

The following behaviours will not be tolerated:

  • using offensive language or swearing at staff
  • yelling or using a raised voice in anger
  • physical or verbal violence and intimidation
  • verbal abuse or insults towards staff
  • racial abuse or sexual harassment in any form
  • unrealistic demands that create undue stress for staff.

Where abusive behaviour towards a PHA staff member is alleged, the matter will be raised with the relevant manager within your organisation. Continued violations may result in escalation and/or actions such as breach of contract/MOU processes, suspension of services or other appropriate remedies.

If at any time you are dissatisfied with your interaction with PHA staff, please raise your concerns calmly and respectfully. You may contact the staff member’s manager or email me directly scorcoran@phau.com.au.

We value your ongoing partnership and your commitment to supporting a safe, respectful and productive environment for all.
