Your idea could help beekeepers and pollination-reliant industries manage varroa mite. The Community Bee Innovation Fund is offering grants of $5,000 to $50,000 for Queensland-based projects that develop or apply innovative approaches to managing this pest.

Varroa mite (Varroa destructor) weakens honey bees by feeding on them, often leading to hive collapse. As the pest spreads through Queensland, effective education, monitoring and integrated management strategies are more important than ever. Beekeepers will need to adopt best-practice pest management, while growers who rely on pollination may need to strengthen their partnerships with beekeepers to ensure access to healthy hives.

The fund supports new ideas or the novel application of existing tools to manage varroa mite in Queensland.

Applications for round 2 close at 5pm AEST on Monday 18 August 2025.
