PHA leads biosecurity planning with key industries

PHA continues to support Members and partners through targeted planning activities to strengthen Australia’s biosecurity preparedness.

During May and June 2025, PHA’s Biosecurity Planning team led stakeholder meetings with the avocado, apple and pear, and ginger industries to review and develop Biosecurity Plans for their respective industries. These sessions, known as Biosecurity Reference Panel meetings, are a vital part of maintaining preparedness against exotic pests and diseases.

In addition to plan development, the team participated in industry engagement events including the AgriFutures Ginger Program Research Update and Australian Mangoes’ Biosecurity Preparedness Workshop. These forums helped reinforce relationships and align efforts to build biosecurity resilience across industries.

The planning team facilitated a face-to-face avocado industry meeting in Brisbane, a hybrid in-person and online ginger industry meeting in Nambour, and an online review for the apple and pear industry. Each meeting focused on updating their High Priority Pest information, progressing Action Plans, and ensuring biosecurity activities remain relevant and responsive.

PHA thanks all contributors for supporting these planning efforts. Collaboration is essential to identifying priority threats and strengthening Australia’s plant biosecurity system.
