Surveillance
Improving detection and knowledge of Australia's plant pest and disease status
Plant pest surveillance is a system of making and recording inspections for plant pests and diseases. It assists in providing proof that produce is free from exotic pests and diseases in order to meet our trading partner requirements, or to demonstrate successful pest eradication at the end of a nationally approved eradication campaign.
The National Plant Biosecurity Surveillance Strategy 2021-2031 and National Plant Biosecurity Surveillance Strategy Implementation Plan sets out the framework and goals to support policy and delivery of plant health surveillance.
PHA works with governments and plant industry organisations for citrus, forestry, grain, potatoes and tropical plants to develop industry-specific strategies.
Visit our Resource Centre to view industry-specific surveillance strategies.
Through a suite of industry-funded programs, PHA works with our Members to develop best practice solutions for preparedness, response and recovery and develop targeted communication, extension and training to reduce risk.
PHA drives the development of and investment in innovative technologies to improve surveillance efficacy.
The Plant Surveillance Network Australasia-Pacific (PSNAP) aims to enhance and strengthen Australia’s surveillance capacity and capability to identify priority plant pests.
