PHA’s Board of Directors provides a balance of skills, knowledge and experience across plant industry areas.
Supporting the Board, our staff work to achieve outcomes for our members through implementation of the Strategic Plan and associated Annual Operational Plan.
Elizabeth Riley
Liz is an independent viticulturist and non-executive board director based in the Hunter Valley. She has over 30 years experience working in the Australian Wine Industry with expertise in viticulture, biosecurity, sustainability and training, and is active in industry in a number of roles.
Liz current sits on the National Wine Biosecurity Committee, the industry’s Agrochemical Reference Group and is a member of the industry reference group for the Fungicide Resistance Project. She is a NED of Wine Australia, SAAFE CRC Pty Ltd, and Freshcare Ltd, having previously served on the board of the Australian Wine Research Institute and as Vice President (R&D) of the NSW Wine Industry Association. Liz remains an active practitioner with a small consulting portfolio across NSW and supporting the management of the family’s vineyard assets in the Hunter. She also develops and delivers viticultural training to industry, including Viticulture Emergency Response Training (VERT) with Tocal College and “Biosecurity for Contractors” for Vinehealth Australia.
Liz has been recognised for her contributions to industry by the NSW DPI as the 2020 recipient of the Graham Gregory Award, Wine Communicators of Australia as a Legend of the Vine in 2023 and was made a Fellow of the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology in 2024.
She holds a Bachelor of Applied Science (Wine) from Roseworthy Agricultural College, is a Nuffield Scholar and a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
