Dr Yvonne Ogaji

Project Officer, Surveillance

Yvonne Ogaji is a researcher with a background in molecular genetics and diagnostics and joins PHA in the capacity of Project Officer, Surveillance.

Yvonne commenced her career in agriculture as a Research Scientist at AgriBio, Agriculture Victoria Research (Department of Jobs, Precincts and Resources). There she was responsible for using molecular genomic approaches including high throughput sequencing (HTS) to assist several national and international commercial breeding programs, before commencing her industry-funded PhD in Molecular genetics at LaTrobe University/AgriBio.

Yvonne’s thesis project investigated Ascochyta blight in field peas using novel genetic methodologies for improving disease resistance. Her research experience includes molecular genetics, microbiology, bioinformatics, plant breeding, plant pathology and diagnostics.

Yvonne also worked with the Australian Department of Agriculture Fisheries and Forestry (DAFF) as a senior biosecurity officer carrying out biosecurity screening, risk assessment/analysis and management before securing a role as a molecular research scientist.

In her new role at PHA, Yvonne will provide project management across a range of projects and programs including CitrusWatch and the National Forest Pest Surveillance Program.

Yvonne feels fortunate to utilise her skills and expertise to enable an effective biosecurity system and looks forward to working with industry, community groups and government departments to mitigate biosecurity risks.
