James Sheehan

A rural lad a heart, James Sheehan grew up on a mixed grazing property in south-east Queensland. James developed an interest in bees when he was young and has been keeping a hives ever since. He currently manages 70 hives in his small mixed farm.

James has a Bachelor of Applied Science from the University of Queensland, Gatton, and worked with some commercial apiarists during university breaks.

After trying his hand at a few rural pursuits, James moved to Western Australia to work for the Department of Primary Industries and Regions WA. In 2004, he started as an invasive species biosecurity officer, a role that has given him a wide range of skills and experiences in operations, training, regulation and policy. He has been the WA bee biosecurity officer since 2017.
