AUSPestCheck® hits 10 million surveillance record uploads
Plant Health Australia’s flagship digital surveillance platform, AUSPestCheck®, has officially logged more than 10 million pest surveillance records. This marks a significant milestone in Australia’s biosecurity journey to help strengthen early detection, support market access, and build national biosecurity intelligence.
Record number 10 million was submitted by the Department of Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) on 30 April 2025. The record, uploaded via application program interface (API), came from the Jurisdictional Fruit Fly Surveillance Program and related to white striped fruit fly (Bactrocera albistrigata) in Port Augusta. The pest was marked as absent.
AUSPestCheck® securely aggregates surveillance data from multiple programs and jurisdictions, visualising the spread and coverage of surveillance across different pests and regions. With more than 30 participant organisations, 21 surveillance programs, and over 180 active users, the platform is helping to create a connected and responsive surveillance system that evolves alongside national needs.
“10 million is more than just a number,’ said Sarah Corcoran, PHA CEO. ‘These records are helping us detect risks earlier, respond faster, and safeguard our environment, economy and way of life.’
“The milestone reflects the value of collaboration across the plant biosecurity system.”
‘From local trapping programs to national oversight, AUSPestCheck® helps build a clearer, more connected picture of pest surveillance in Australia,” she said
PHA’s Digital Systems team oversees the platform, and National Manager, Digital Systems, Adam Hurrell highlighted the role of consistent collaboration in reaching the milestone.
“Only a year ago, AUSPestCheck® held around 6 million records, which was already a huge achievement,” Adam said.
“Thanks to strong partnerships and regular API uploads through programs like the Jurisdictional Fruit Fly Surveillance Program, we’ve now passed 10 million. That program alone has contributed over 6 million records since 2022.”
AUSPestCheck® is designed to support real-time, standards-based data sharing while respecting individual agency controls. Used for everything from early detection and proof of pest absence, to identifying surveillance gaps, the system is a core part of Australia’s plant biosecurity infrastructure.
