Leandra Fernandes

Graduate Project Officer

Leandra Fernandes started working at PHA in 2019 as a Graduate Project Officer. In her first year at PHA she worked with the Biosecurity Planning Coordinator on Biosecurity Management Plans and a variety of other projects. She is currently working with the Manager of the National Fruit Fly Council on a range of fruit fly related projects.

Prior to working at PHA Leandra completed a Master of Environment degree, majoring in Environmental protection (biosecurity) from Griffith University, during which she looked at “Food security and biosecurity issues related to the Panama disease affecting Banana plantations in Northern Queensland”. While at Griffith University, she worked part time as an academic tutor in biochemistry, environmental management and genetics.

Leandra has also completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Life Sciences, with a major research component on “Antioxidant activity of two plant extracts, Nyctanthes arbor-tristis and Ixorea coccinea”.
