Science Protecting Plant Health conference

October 6, 2017

PHA was a platinum sponsor of the recent Science Protecting Plant Health Conference in Brisbane and had a good presence at the event. Over 500 delegates gathered to hear about the latest plant biosecurity research and to learn about Australia’s plant biosecurity system.

Staff members were highly visible over the three days, providing information at the PHA exhibition stand, conducting a workshop on tomato potato psyllid as well as presenting several sessions.

Executive Director and CEO, Greg Fraser, gave a presentation on the company’s role in coordinating national RD&E, and Dr Sharyn Taylor gave a keynote talk about national farm biosecurity programs. Nicholas Woods also demonstrated the virtual coordination centre AusPESTCheck at a session on Day 2.  Two officers from the Grains Farm Biosecurity Program gave presentations: Rachel Taylor-Hukins on ten years of the program and Judy Bellati on enhancing surveillance for exotic pests of stored grain using a partnership approach.

PHA would like to thank the conference co-convenors, the Australasian Plant Pathology Society and the Plant Biosecurity CRC. Thanks also go to the attendees for their contribution to the event and who play a part in the biosecurity system in Australia.
