On 28 July, PHA’s Program Manager for Training and Biosecurity Preparedness, Stephen Dibley, attended the launch of the ACT Biosecurity Strategy 2016-26. Being surrounded by New South Wales, the strategy for the ACT naturally aligns with the NSW Biosecurity Strategy. Just over half of the land in the ACT is conservation area – the origin of its bush capital image and the location of important reserves for native plants and animals – 20 per cent is rural and the remainder urban. The ACT also has significant plantings of exotic and native trees that contribute to social amenity. These and other unique features of the ACT define the biosecurity strategy for the territory.
