User-friendly and relevant technology support systems can improve the effectiveness and efficiency of plant health system operations, so PHA works to develop agreed, consistent standards and methods for recording and storing plant health information, and to develop online systems that ensure the widest possible availability of information to all stakeholders.
PHA assists in the development and support of a number of information systems, including:
Pest specific materials including fact sheets and contingency plans are located on PHA's Pest Information Document Database (PIDD), or through PaDIL's Plant Biosecurity Toolbox.
PHA has also been instrumental in establishing the Australian Biosecurity Intelligence Network (ABIN). Bringing together the areas of human, plant, animal, wildlife and aquatic biosecurity for the first time, ABIN will create both a physical and virtual workspace where data and information can be shared nationally to support the delivery of improved biosecurity outcomes.
Skilled personnel have been recruited for the ABIN Board of Directors, CEO and other core staff. Having achieved this, PHA is now assisting in the establishment of ABIN pilot projects. One of these pilot projects is being lead by PHA in support of a key recommendation of the National Fruit Fly Strategy.
