Communique: National Communications Network

May 27, 2015

The Biosecurity Incident National Communication Network (NCN) held a face-to-face meeting in Sydney on 29-30 April. The meeting was hosted by the Australian Government Department of Agriculture.

The National Farmers’ Federation and Wildlife Health Australia (WHA) also attended the meeting as observers. The communication manager from WHA provided an overview of the organisation’s role in biosecurity incidents that impact on Australia’s wildlife.

Each jurisdiction’s work on prevention and preparedness communication activities for foot-and-mouth disease were discussed, as were responses to Panama disease tropical race 4, cucumber green mottle mosaic virus and giant pine scale.

NCN members also met with representatives from three industry groups – Cotton Australia, the Australian Veterinary Association and the Australian Chicken Meat Federation – to gain insight into the information requirements of these organisation’s members during responses to incidents that impact their sector.
